Surabaya – On Tuesday, March 17th 2025, students of SD Islam Al Azhar 11 have carried out Zakat Day. It’s a momentous occasion that embodies the values of compassion, generosity, and social responsibility. This event served as a poignant reminder of the importance of giving and sharing with those in need, as emphasized in the Quran.
Zakat, one of the five pillars of Islam, is a moral and social obligation that encourages Muslims to contribute a portion of their wealth to the less fortunate. As stated in Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 43: “And establish prayer and give zakah, and bow with those who bow [in worship].“
Students from Primary 1 to 6 participated with great enthusiasm and eagerness. They demonstrated remarkable discipline by patiently waiting in line for their turn to perform zakat. Under the guidance of the LAZ Al Azhar team, Alhamdulillah, we are grateful that all students successfully fulfilled their zakat obligations in accordance with the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad SAW.
Zakat Day at SD Islam Al Azhar 11 served as a powerful reminder of the transformative impact of generosity and compassion. As Surah Al-Dhariyat, verse 19, states: “And in their properties, there is a right share for the beggar and the destitute.” By embracing the values of Zakat, we can create a more just and equitable society.
